Korean Beds - My dream to dream

Today’s topic is Koran beds... You must have seen them in many dramas and if you are not from Korean, Japan or China you probably do not have one bed like this. So let me talk about it as someone that has never slept in a cute bed like these ones.

Let me organize my ideas and then you can tell me if you agree with me or not (of course if you are a reasonable person you are going to agree with me, I’m a girl, I’m always right). You may be asking yourself why my opinion is so important?! Why should you take it in consideration?! Well, I’m an expert about beds, I love sleeping and If I could I would stay in bed all day, I have more good memories with my bed than you have of your entire life (did it sound strange to you too?!).

Ok, now the pros:

1. THEY ARE CHEAP
A Korean friend of mine told me that a Korean bed can costs $90, it is made of latex and it’s very common in Korea. With $90 dollars here where I live (Brazil) I can’t buy the blankets to cover it, imagine the whole bed!

2. THEY ARE SO TRADITIONAL
These kinds of beds are special because they bring with them a cultural touch, your boring bedroom would look so different just with the small addition of this traditional Korean bed. It would be confortable and decorative at the same time.

3. THEY ARE EASY TO MOVE
If you need more space you can just fold your bed and let it in the corner of your room, then unfold it and use it to sleep. With an occidental bed you can’t do it, or you find for another room or do what you have to do on it.

4. YOU WON’T FALL FROM IT
Just if you have fallen down from a bed you will understand how it is terrible, but in a Korean bed it won’t be a problem because they are so close to the ground that you won’t get hurt! Isn’t that great?!

5. LIFE TIME
A bed like that has a long life time, my friend told me that she won’t change it at least for five years… Considering that it costs just $90 dollars, it is a very long time, right?!

6. NO MONSTERS UNDER YOUR BED
Children are always afraid of monster under their beds, for obvious reasons it’s not possible with Korean beds! So your kids will be safe and will sleep the entire night in peace!

Now the cons:

1. SURPRISE ATTACKS
It’s so close to the ground that all the most horrible and disgusting insects could just crawl to you bed and get into it with you… I swear my house is clean (most part of the time) and I don’t have insects walking around there all the time, but just the fact that it could happen… aiiiigo… it’s terrible!!!! Maybe I am a little bit crazy about it, maybe it’s a trauma from my childhood, I’m not sure, I just know that it’s a negative aspect of it.

Well, that’s the only negative aspect of it I suppose, or am I forgetting something?! I don’t think so… It's a shame that I can't buy one of those beds here, but internet is so fantastic that I could probably find one of these incredible beds near me.

Now tell me, how is your relationship with your bed?! Would you buy a Korean bed and abandon your current bed?! Oh yeah, you would, right?!

So Ji Sub's Birthday

Today is a very special day... no it’s not because of Unity Day in Russia, or the Flag Day in Panama or even the Blessed Teresa Manganiello day…. Today is a special day because it’s my favorite actor birthday… Happy birthday So Ji Sub!!!

(NOTE: I know that problably is 5th Nobember now in Korea, I would like to post it in the right date of his birthday but there was a conspiration here where I live and a blackout was the responsible for my delay, I'm really sorry)

생일 축하 해요 So Ji Sub!!!

I believe if you have read one of my posts before you will realize how much I admire So Ji Sub, he is a talented actor and musician (he is handsome, intelligent and rich too ^^). Of course I don’t know the real So Ji Sub, his is discrete when the topic is his personal life, but I can’t avoid falling in love with his professional life (it’s a pure kind of love, the one from a fan to an idol, not from a woman to a man).

So Ji Sub doesn’t know me either (such a shame, he doesn’t know that he is missing a wonderful friend), but I believe that it’s important receive the support of his fans in moments like that, it’s an anonymous feeling of love and respect.

Normally the actors have no idea how they impact someone’s live, like me for example, I started studying Korean after watching the drama “Oh My Venus”, now I’m studying Korean, I writing a blog about it and I have made several friends (my Kakao Talk Korean friends… love you all!!!!). It’s impressive how a good work as an actor can be so powerful to a fan. So, I hope So Ji Sub keep doing his amazing work!!!

I won’t enumerate here the reasons I have to admire him as a person and as a professional, after all I wrote a post about it some weeks ago, but I wish all his dreams come true and that in the future we can have more and more of his wonderful work on dramas and music.

Korean Nail Art

Another interesting thing in Korea is the nailing art... They are such creative people! The designers are so cute and elaboreted... Now let's talk about it!

THE DESIGNER
If you are like me and think that just enamels are more than enough, you don't know Korean nail art... they use different colors and mix them, add some small rocks, symbols and everything you can imagine. I can't do it... if I am able to put the right quantity of enamel in my nail I feel like a professional!

THE SIZE
The most beautiful nails are the long ones, after all what can you do in a microscopic nail?! Keep it long and allow the nail designer professional to work on it, but please, keep it in a normal long size, after all you're not a star of a scary movie.

THE PRICE
I heard from a Korean friend that a nailing can cost about $30 (thirty dollars!!!!). You have no idea how I think it's expensive, I know that it's pretty, such a beautiful work must be expensive, but come on, how can I pay $30 for something that will be destroyed in the first time I wash the dishes. NO WAY! I'm not that rich to spend this anount of money twice a month.

If you are like me and prefer do it yourself, you know how difficult it can be. Your left hand nails are pretty but when you try to do the same in your right hand nails, it's a disarter! When people ask to look my nails, I just show them the good hand work (my left hand)! I wish both could be so good!

That's why I prefer do it myself, of course it's not like a professional nailing, but I can live with that (and I won't be poor beacause of it).

Kiss at the first sign!

Talk about kiss wasn't a big deal in my life, especially in this crazy world where people are losing their minds and being more and more explicit in their affective demonstrations. However, I was shocked after watch a Korean drama.

I was watching Oh My Venus and my heart was beating so fast while the kiss moment was approaching, my hands were sweating, my mouth was dry and I was locking in the bottle of my throat the scream of happiness for finally see them together. Now please, imagine my disappointment when the expected kiss was just a peck kiss (the lips touching quickly).

Both character were over 30 years old and that was the kiss?! Really?! Come on, kids around the world have shared deeper kisses than those two. After a moment of deep and profound reflection, I understood that I was looking the reflection of a whole culture, with different standards and different attitudes.

So, I asked a female friend about her experiences kissing, she told me that in the first date they never kiss and when they do kiss, they have a peck kiss first to later on start kissing for real. I thought it was just with girls, but than I asked a male friend and he told me that he never kiss in the first date and normally the first kiss is a peck kiss.

But of course there are open mouth kisses and with tongue too, but they don't do it in public or with someone they barely know. They keep these things for private moments… there are others ways to show affection than pressing your tongue in your boy/girlfriend's throat to everybody see.

My Korean female friend's first kiss was with 22 years old and my Korean male friend's first kiss was with 17. I don't have to say how in that moment I felt like Mary Magdalene, the prostitute… I will never reveal how old I was when I first kissed! Not even under severe torture (maybe just if So Ji Sub asks me… I can’t hide anything from him).

In the occidental culture people believe they have to make themselves happy, without a second thought… so it causes a disintegration of values, kids are not kids anymore, a kiss isn't a proof of affection and “I love you” is the same as “good morning” these days. However, the oriental culture (and more specific here the Korean) are trying to preserve their values and beliefs.

During the dramas I have been watching I could see that more than the story itself there was a group of values being thought. The respect to the oldest, the teamwork in schools, workplaces and life, the respect to the body through alimentary habits, and so forth.

People there don't touch each other for no reason, their space and bodies are special that's why that even a simple and pure peck kiss has an entire different meaning. Honestly I envy those values and standards, I believe we have much to learn with the oriental cultures.

Kiss someone is good, but kiss someone you really love and care about is much better… so, stop kissing-first-and-asking-later and starting looking for the right person to kiss!

I’m curious now… How old were you when you first kissed?
Please post your comment!!
